Rocky Mountain National Park Colorado Winter Elopement | Erica & Karl
We are no strangers to Rocky Mountain National Park and doing weddings there, we know the little spots and quirks about the park that many don’t know. So it came as a surprise to me that Bear Lake was still frozen over in May. I don’t know why I didn’t think about it, but I’d been all over the park in May before, but apparently never to Bear lake specifically in May. Obviously, snow takes forever to melt up on Trail Ridge Road which is at some of the highest elevations in the park but we were walking in full-on slush and snow for the wedding. Erica and Karl had a super sweet ceremony that lasted all of about 5 minutes and then we took a few photos and suggested heading to Sprague Lake or somewhere down at a lower elevation. One of my super powers is really thinking on my feet and solving problems before their problems. Often times these skills are applied when things don’t quite go on as planned. It honestly was fine and they were excited about the (literally feet of) snow we were trudging through. We went down to Sprague Lake and it was like night and day. No snow except what we could see on the peaks and it was warm and beautiful. We had a great day with just the two of them (and me) and were so honored to spend the time with them.
